Jaye’s story began in 1976 as an importer of handmade jewelry. Our founder’s love of color, passion for art, and appreciation for design was the beginning of Jaye’s Studio hand-painted tole.
While visiting the antique district of Knotting Hill in London in 1991, Kam and Jaye purchased an antique tole tub that would perfectly organize their collection of art and design books. The tub became the inspiration for Jaye’s Studio; traditional tole hand-painted with fun, fashionable prints.
Today, their son Lalan and his wife Aditi, have taken over the helm of the company. Based in New England they work with the same passion for tole and continue to grow their unique brand in a global marketplace.
The attention to detail necessary to paint each Jaye’s piece requires talented artists only found in rural India. These painters are masters of temple painting and the traditional Indian art of miniature painting known as “pichvai”.
Today, these master artists paint each Jaye’s piece with the same care and attention that they would give a miniature work of art.
